Dyker Civic's Annual Dinner
was held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Bay Ridge Manor.
Bay Ridge resident and retired public school teacher Chip Cafiero was honored.
Thanks to all of of Dyker Civic's members and friends who attended and purchased raffle tickets for local artist James Stone's patriotic painting signed by Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

At our Tuesday, September 8th meeting, State Senator Martin Golden, City Councilman Vincent Gentile's staff, Assemblyman Brook-Krasny, Assemblyman Abbate and Dyker Civic President Fran Vella-Marrone presented certificates to the participants of our Summer Classes for Seniors Program. For more information, please visit our Dyker Seniors page! Our featured speaker was Archie Warner, Brooklyn Manager of Customer Services Operations for the United States Postal Service. We learned about the Walk-A-Thon to benefit Reaching Out Community Services, our neighborhood food pantry, and presented director Tom Neve with $469.09 raised by Dyker Civic members and friends and City Pitties volunteers during Operation Food Bowl. These funds were raised to buy pet food for struggling "pet parents" in our community.

A Beatles tribute band, a barbeque, and for the 4th year in a row, Dyker Civic raffled off a girl's and a boy's bicycle! City Pitties and Dyker Civic brought Tavi & Friends and a raffle courtesy of Petland Discounts.

At our June 9, 2009 meeting, representatives from the American Red Cross presented a video and discussed the mission of American Red Cross Greater New York. They brought Mr. Fred Leahy, a Senior Volunteer Partner, to discuss his personal experience with ARC as a volunteer at major disaster sites like Hurricane Katrina. Ms. Denise Bloise, Director of the State Island Area Office, and Mr. Olivier Szlos, a senior director of the American Red Cross of Greater New York, answered questions and distributed pertinent information about making an emergency plan, being informed and training to become an ARC volunteer.
